MacBook Pro 13" Retina
The MacBook Pro Retina series, which was introduced in late 2012, features high-resolution displays with quadruple the resolution. Instead of 1280 x 800 pixels, the display now showed 2560 x 1600 pixels, resulting in a much sharper image. However, programs had to be adapted in some cases to implement this correctly.
The RAM was now unfortunately soldered and could not be upgraded or exchanged in case of a defect. At least the SSD was still exchangeable.
The Retina 13" series was divided into two lines: The A1425 was built late 2012 and early 2013, basically identical only with different CPU variants. Then came the A1502 model, where you have to distinguish between the late 2013 / Mid 2014 version (compatible with each other) and the Mid 2015 version. There are no compatible components between A1425 and A1502.Within the A1502 series there are again compatibilities, e.g. the MagSafe module, the microphone, the SSD, the fan for example.
The SSDs of the 2015 version called SSUBX were significantly faster than the previous versions - up to a factor of 3.
Unfortunately, the displays of the Retina models are hardly or very difficult to repair: Only the hinge cover and the display cable were halfway easy to replace. The rest was integrated so high that a repair is hardly feasible: There is no actual panel anymore, which could be removed and exchanged (like in the A1278 models). Instead, the individual "layers" of the panel, such as the different foils, are directly built into the display case and partly glued.
Also the battery was now firmly glued. Difficult and laborious to remove - which now also led to the fact that a defective TrackPad could only be replaced with great effort.
